    Basement Rough-in plumbing
I recently bough a new house and had the basement plumbing roughed in for a toilet, sink and shower. I'm a pretty good DIY guy, but I've never tackled plumbing from a rough in stage. It's pretty obvious what to do to install the toilet (there is a pipe shooting up about 4" in diameter. ) Looks like the venting etc, is done. But i'm not sure about the sink & shower drains. All that is there is two 14" square trays about 8" deep sitting in the concrete. When I take the tray out, it's just gravel underneath. I expected to see a pipe or something to connect the sink drain to. Do I have to dig the gravel up and find it? Otherwise, what would the sink drain connect to? I attached a couple pictures that might help my description

This appears to be first properly" roughed bathroom presented in this forum....
    1. Toilet is clear. All is there. Just install closet ring.
    2. The black "Tuff Box" you removed is for shower and /or tub. Dig deeper. There will be a pipe. Make sure it has trap. If not, install one. Then shower drain head.
    3. Third pipe, on left of the toilet, appears to me to be drain/vent for sink. Cut it about 16" above the floor, glue in 2"x 1 1/2" San T and reconnect with vent.

And you are all set. The plumber who roughed it in did all the dirty work for you.

Come back with progress photos and let us know how you did...

    Milo,
    Or anyone,

    HUGE help so far. Thanks.

    1. So, my thought that the 2 Tuff Boxes was 1 for the sink and 1 for the tub/shower is wrong? You're saying 1 Tuff box is for the tub and the other for a shower?

    2. If you're saying cut the pipe to the left of the toilet for my sink, that's saying that the sink would need to be on the left. If I wanted the sink on the right, could I use the last pipe on the right or is that not possible because of the placement of the Tuff boxes?

    Thanks.

I do see one possible problem with the toilet stub. It doesn't appear to have any type of wrap around it. Looks like it was poured directly in the concrete. This means you will have to hilti out the concrete around the pipe so you have room for your flange, careful not to break the pipe. The two boxes are for this reason... its so you have a choice of shower or tub. The one located north in the pic is for tub, the one to the south is for shower. If you do use one of these for sink you will have to run a vent for your sink.

I was going to leave you + feedback - but that "....reputation..." message came up again.. :-D . Perhaps Tom could tell us how to get around it..

Anyway, very good observation regarding the 2 Tuff Boxes next to each other. See you have been around the block couple of times, too.

I can't for the life of me figure out how to allow comments.. lol, think I may be computer retarded. Kind of seems like I'm not in control of my personal messages and settings on this site. Weird. Wish I knew how to start my own plumbing practices, and codes site. But for now I'm loving it here.

If I choose to just do a half bath and not do a tub or shower, could I:

    1. Fill in the Tuff boxes, level them off and put subfloor over top of them?
    2. use the pipe on the right instead of the one on the left to do my sink?

Please see original picture for pipe locations.

Yes, but I would still dig in the gravel to make sure the pipes underneith are properly capped before putting floor over top of it.

Jist click on the little set of scales. It works. I couldn't give reputation to Dad or milo because I hadn't spread enough around. However KTM1057 is a different story. I could add comment to his post if I wished. Regards, Tom
