Hello, I have a Coleman/Evcon gas forced air furnace that I just turned on. The motor comes on and the ignitor cycles through but nothing happens. After it cycles three times it shuts down and the indicator has a steady one blink/one blink/ one/blink etc.etc. Now last year I had to remove and clean the flame sensor at least twice if not three times could the flame sensor be the cause or am I looking at some other problem. If I don't get some heat in here quick my wife is going to start burning my clothes for heat.

If the furnace lites but goes out right away it could be the flame sensor.

If you have no flame after the ignitor starts to glow, check to make sure the gas valve is on inside the furnace and the gas shut off is open outside the furnace. If all is open and in the on position it may be just as simple as a dirty burner or burner orifice keeping the gas from hitting the ignitor.

Okay both valves are on (especially since I never shut them off for any reason) and I ran a small nail inside the small gas outlet leading to the electronic ignitor. I replaced the cover and set the thermostat to come on but again the ignitor comes on three times before shutting down. No flame nothing. Do I have a bad gas valve? That's the only thing I can think of.

If 24 volts is being supplied to the gas valve when it is supposed to be activated and the valve does not open it is probably the valve.

Okay how do I test the voltage in idiots terms?

O'K I think my problems is similar to yours. See "furnace circuit board??". When this happened late last winter, was told there was probably a shortage in the circuit board. The technician tightened the romex plug on the inducer motor and heat came back on. AC worked fine all summer, heat came on last week but gone out again. Watching replies to my thread may help with your problem too.

Attach meter to low voltage leeds that activate gas valve. Start up furnace and observe meter. If no voltage is indicated on meter when the gas valve should be on the circuit board feeding the gas valve is probably defective. If 24 volts is observed at the meter and the gas valve is not operating then the gas valve is bad.

Unless you have the necessary skill to safely perform these tests I would suggest you call for professional ON SITE service from your local HVAC company.
