I recently got a 1984 kawasaki kx 80 that hasnt run for about 17 years but still ran when the person last tried. I have been working on it and found some flaws and fixed them, however the bike will not run. It has gas, compression, spark, and exhaust flow. I have kicked it about 1000 times and it doesn't even turn over. I have tried using starter fluid and pushstarting it and I saw no difference. Any help apreciated greatly. [email protected]

Have you had the carb apart ? Often times when the gas dries up it leaves behind a varnish or goo that can clog the jets. Be sure to give it a through cleaning. Also are you getting spark ? Another thing is to try a " fresh " spark plug as sometimes spark plugs can glaze over and still look good but produce a weak spark.

Try blocking carby with a clean rag while u kick it over to make sure it getting fuel and if it has good blue spark it should fire, otherwise check your timing, marks should be aligned on stator plate too crank case which is behind flywheel

Check to see if fuel is coming out of main crank seals, if so means they are furcked and won't have sufficeint lower compression and won't start

Hi, how do you adjust the timing on a 1986 Kawasaki KX80? Because my 1986 KX80 is easy to shift in first and second gear but the third, fourth, fifth and six gear are really hard to shift in so I'm guessing its probably the timing but I do not know how to adjust it. If you could just tell me how, I would really appriciate your help!

It sounds like you could have a bent shifting fork inside. If it grinds your syncros are out. More then likely your going to have to take the case apart for inspection of the transmission.

Cuzz, it's a rebuilted engine and it doesn't grind. Its just too hard for the foot to shift. It doesn't grind, can it be the timing, still?

Because, it can shift in third, forth, fifth and six gear but like I said, it's a big hard to shift so you have to use your hand to shift to those gears and not shure what's wrong...

No it has nothing to do with timing of the engine. Ing takes place in the transmission. If it's a recent rebuild then something might have fallen into the base of it too. Still sounds like it needs to come apart for a good inspection.

All right, so if I want to inspect it, do I have to open it up by the clutch side of the endine and remove the clutch to see the gears and all,

Maybe try turning the Clutch cable in a turn or 2. Bikes can be tough to shift if clutch not totally disengaging.
Before opening the bike, I would Purchase the Shop Manual, you will need it anyway.

Hi, what do you meen by turning the clutch cable? It shifts real good in 1 n 2 but the others are hard.

I had the same trouble on the same year bike

Push it with the spark plug out and make sure you have a continuos spark, mine had a spark when kicking it over but would stop sparking if the engine turned at a faster speed

Stator was weak, replaced it and it ran great
