Replacing Moen single handle- tub / shower
The handle on my Moen single handle tub / shower broke so I'm trying to replace
    It with a new one.
There are "gears" inside a sleeve and I can't figure out how to put the new one on.
While looking straight at faucet the hot turns counter clockwise.
While turning clockwise the water gets cool then cold then off at a 90 degree angle.
    Help! :(

Your Moen carries a lifetime warranty and you should be able to get your parts for free. Moen - Site Redesign the link for the Moen tutorials regarding opening t your faucet.

Without knowing which unit you have, it's a little difficult to give exact advice. The Moen website has installation and assembly information if you look a bit. Those 'gears' are most likely the hot limit stop. If you find the instructions for your particular unit at Moen, you will figure it out. Actually, unless your old handle broke into unidentifiable pieces, you should be able to study it and put the new one on from that. They aren't too difficult.

Have been there and it wasn't very helpful.
Been to other sites with "help" but they weren't either!
The one that broke was a generic replacement too.
Just can't remember how the limit is suppose to look.
    Tried many ways.

Are you saying you tried looking at the tutorial and it still wasn't helpful? If you request a new handle by calling Moen customer support it will come with new directions. If you already bought a handle it too has instructions that should be very direct.

The one I bought didn't come with generic instructions.
The instructions it came with I already knew.
I just needed to know how to put the "limit" in the right way.
It seems that I can't get enough hot or cold to come out the way it had before.
I also didn't know that Moen was garenteed for life, so thanks for that.
I need to talk to someone that would know inside out.
I also don't know the model either.

Call Moen at 800-882-0116 explain your problem to them they will tell how to put it in, will send you the instruction VIA email and will send you parts with no charges to you, God Luck.

Don't worry about Hot and Cold sides. Moen has it all figured out. It is very simple system easy to service, repair and adjust. If you end up having hot water on the right, than remove the handle, turn stem 180 degrees and reinstall handle. Hot will be on the left.
