trust, respect, COMMUNICATION. Not just rambling on. REALLY TRULY expressing your feelings and thoughts through words. i.e.. ) "I am really proud to be with you, when you do wonderful things like that." or "I don't like it when you say that, because it makes me look silly" Talk about EVERYTHING. How to raise a family - values, morals and talk about how you feel about money - are you a spender or a saver? TALK TALK TALK. What are your expectations of your partner? COMMUNICATE. And listen.

Happiness based on your own character and accomplishments, not heaping that responsibility onto your mate. It makes for good Hollywood, but a mate's job isn't "to complete you"... it's to accompany you, and admire you if do the work to make that possible for them.

I honestly have a very good relationship with my boyfriend right now.. and I think its really good to have a serious and a comical side and be able to differentiate between them easily.. trust is a MAJOR role in a relationship, as is a sense of humor.. you have to be comfortable with just each other, but also maintain your friends. You have to be able to talk about anything, and not keep secrets. I love my boyfriend unconditionally and its hard to be away from him because I love him so much but absence makes the heart grow fonder.. and inside jokes are always cute.. also compliments are wonderful

Also, a sexual side is also very nice to have. It helps develop a really strong bond. So do sleepovers :) even if you really are just sleeping. And you have to be able to help each other also

Oh yeah, when all else fails... HUMOR! You must have someone who makes you laugh. Laugh because they're funny, because they're silly, because they know you, and because you know them.

    Laugh, then laugh some more.

The one I haven't seen so far that never jumps to the front is, time away from your relationship.

I wish I knew the answer to this because I have the hardest time keeping a girlfriend beyond two months. I've tried it all and failed miserably.

    Hi Bural21.

    You want tons of answers...

Well, can I have at least 12 ounces more information from you?

    Age-group?
    Is this your first relationship?
Are you alone now, tired of being alone, or scared of being alone?
Do you respect and like yourself and the goals you set for the future?

Why just settle for a 'stable' relationship.. shoot for more because a stable relationship sounds boring. Also, never give up any part of you and your values just to please anyone else - be sincere to yourself first, then share yourself with another... In other words, share your differences with understanding and caring.

You've gotten at least a ton of advice and don't really have to dish out those 12 oz. for me, but it would help me to know a little more to help you reach harmony in life.

Good luck dear, and get back with us soon.

How true. It gives us time to miss you, remember the good times and look forward to more. BUT, we should never take the entire time just thinking of the other and forget our own identity and goals - to stay constructive.

    P.S. Miss you too Chuffy.

Chery - this isn't specifically advice for me, just curious to know what some people think makes a stable relationship.

Personally, I'm 17 years old and I've had many boyfriends, but only two relationships, and I've been with my current other half for roughly 1.5 years.

With me it's trust, communication, and compromise. It's about two people wanting to make a relationship work and along the way you would've disagreements, laughs, high and low moments, etc. If a problem arises your are capable of working through them.

This is more to wards a good relationship than a stable one. I believe stable means to settle for something. A good relationship has TRUST, RESPECT, the feeling of comfort around each other and the ability to laugh at and with one another, the ability to work with each other and the commitment to work on any problem that arise. All of this come from good communication.
