Emachine t2542 USB power surge message
It has shut down all my USB ports now. I tried to enable them in the devise manager but without success. I even wiped out all my files and did a complete restore. Now the power surgemessage does not come up but all 6 USB ports are inoperatable

Are there any yellow marks in device mgr.

What happens when you insert a usb device?

If no yellow marks in device mgr, what options do you get when you right click on the USB controllers?

Are the usb devices (ports) enabled in the BIOS

Try and reset BIOS defaults and apply then restart and see if that helps and try all above again

There are no yellow marks in the devise manager. Can you explain to me in detailed steps how to check the BIOS to make sure the ports are enabled and then how to reset them? Thanks

When you first turn on your computer, look for text that gives you options, they only appear for a couple of secs

Usually, it would be something like the Delete, key, F10, F1
Depends on what system you have - restart and look for the text, usually in the corners, should say - Press Delete to enter BIOS or a key used for your system

Check all the options and dropdown list for USB and make sure they are enabled

Once in, there would be a menu along the top with options below them when you click on them, look for reset defaults - it may be a F key optioni also, look at bottom of screen

Can't find option to get into BIOS, post back your model and will see if can find out how to enter BIOS

It looks like it will be the TAB key for emachines

So when starting computer, tap the TAB key

I reset the defaults in the BIOS and I still have inoperable USB ports. Now I am getting the same message about a power surge in the USB hubs and they will be shut down. I reset them but I still have inoperable USB ports.

    What was the exact message?

You mentioned you did a complete restore, was this a system restore point or did you use system recovery disks to go back to factory installation.

What is under Universal Serial Bus Controllers in Device mgr?

What happens when you plug a usb device in, try more than 1 kind of device if possible and post any messages that may come up

Any hardware add-on devices that you think might be related to the problem you're seeing.

Any changes that either happened or that you perhaps made to your computer around the time that the problem started; particularly any software or hardware that you installed or setup.
