I would think the legal age of adulthood would be considered 18. Are you wondering about emancipation or are you wondering about leaving a child unattended?

My nieces Mom moved to California. She is 17, going to be 18 in January. Can her mother just up and move and leave her in their home that her friend is going to rent from her?

The mom can do whatever she wants; it's not good parenting but a 17-year-old girl is more than able to care for herself.

Is it a friend of the mom or a friend of the girl? If it is a friend of the mom then yes she can leave her there if it is a friend of the girl then it becomes a little stickier because no judge would say you can't leave the girl for a weekend but probably wouldn't be that happy about three months. As long as it isn't reported to anyone though then there shouldn't be a problem because she is so close to 18. (providing the girl is mature enough to handle herself)

The parents are divoced, Dad is getting involved. I just can't believe that a Mother can just up and leave her 17 year old child who is still in high school. The person renting is her moms friend.

My son is 17years old and I his father have custody of him. Does he have to see his mom if it is court ordered if he is seventeen years old?
