So I have these horrid neighbors that tie their dog to a dog house in their yard. The dog LIVES there. He's bound to the doggy house and I often see the dog resting on the roof of the little house, (it's flat). He never goes inside and sometimes the owners go out and visit him. He looks so sad and he's always alone... a packing animal is always ALONE! I feel so sad that I can bearly stand to look at him... :(

I wish I could dognap him!:mad:

Maybe you can look into the laws in your area. There are limits to the ways a dog can be treated. Things like that break my heart. What's wrong with these people? :(

I just don't GET why some people get a dog if all they're going to do is tie it to a tree or dog house!

I live in Montreal, Quebec. There are very little animal rights in this horrid province.

These people should be tied to THEIR home and see if it doesn't instill some kind of depression and insanity. I just really dislike those people... and I have never even MET them:(.

Are you interested in adopting the dog? Maybe you could very tactfully approach them and offer to take him for some walks on a trial basis or say you see that he spends a lot of time out there and you'd love to hang with him? Be careful not to criticize them or they will get understandably hostile... Just a thought. Over time, you might become the owner. Or you could just make one dog's life a little nicer by taking him for a walk a couple of times a week.

You could even give an excuse like you would like to have company for safety reasons but don't feel ready to own a dog yet and can you borrow theirs once in a while? Something like that.

I think that would be an awesome idea, asking. The only problem would be that I can't do it.

I live in a small town. EVERYONE knows that I have 5 dogs... and I'm a trainer, and well known at that! I wish I could help the dog in that respect but I simply cannot lie.

Also, it's hard to be tactful and uninsulting about such an issue. Often offering this kind of help comes across in a way that is not usually taken kindly... it might feel to them more like a judgment.

I don't want to make any enemies... as well as I can't have another dog in my home. The limit is 4 to a home in my municipality... and I already have 5, luckily the last one I adopted is a tiny 3 pound Pomeranian... no one see's her, quite frankly! LMAO, thank goodness!

This poor dog is lying, right now, on the roof of it's dog house IN THE RAIN.

Sweetdee, I just posted some links in the "moving house..." thread. Although there might not be laws against it in your province, you might be able to find an organization like the aspca to help you. I know it's hard to see, but I hope that there's a solution out there. You have a good heart, and it's in the right place.

What kind of dog is it? Not saying I like it, but some people will not let their hunting dogs in the house for some reason, training or something like that, turns them soft. I agree with all of you though, poor dog.

This happen to my fiancé. One time we went upstate to visit his family over the 4th of July. My fiancé is an animal lover and we saw his neighbor dog tied to a tree. He was tied to a tree al day. He asked his cousin about the dog and she said he neighbors have the dog tied up all day and this dog had no doghouse.

He watched the dog all day and notice he had no food water all day and nobody was home. When he saw the neighbor return later that day, he spoked his mind about the treatment of the dog and it turned nasty.

My fiancé called the cops and the cops stated there was nothing they can do because the dog didn't look abuse and advised my fiancé to stay off the neighbor property.

Long story short, my fiancé and the neighbor talked the following day and they both apologize for the words exchanged between them two. The cousin reported that the dog is no longer tied to the tree but does go into the backyard to play and the dog looks happy now.

Happy ending! Aaaah!

You are in a tough spot sweetdee, with all your dogs. Maybe you can find someone else to approach them? An irritating out of town visitor who can be the bad cop and you can be the good cop? :)

Linnealand, the SPCA isn't allowed (in Quebec) to stick their nose in. As I said this province has the least protection for animal rights in all of Canada... :( I'm not even kidding here!

There is nothing that can be done short of dognapping the dog.

I can't have another dog... my husband would just not be okay w/ that.

I just wanted to get some other opinions out there about this issue as it's something I see often, both in real life and in some of the posts here on this site.

I just am hoping that I'm not the only person out there that is judging people as harshly as I am about this. I feel bad for judging, because usually I'm very nonjudgemental and very open and loving. I can't control the anger and persecution I feel about people who do this. It's just NOT OKAY and I just don't accept it, no matter WHAT!

We agree with you. It's terrible to take vital pack animals and condemn them to a life of solitude and inactivity. It happens in cities a lot too, but is often less visible and "softer." Dogs locked in carpeted living rooms all day...

Taking some kind of action even if it's ultimately fruitless might make you feel better. Sorry we can't be more help!

Maybe you can start lobbying to change Quebec laws? That might help this particular dog, but you can see him and it will motivate you. You obviously care a lot about this issue. Talk to other people in Quebec who feel as you do. Talk to lawmakers.

Yea, they won't give me the time of day unless I can be PERFECTLY bilingual. My French is pretty good, but not so good that I can "state my case" and sound intelligent in the meantime.

I have seen a Golden Retriever tied up outside of his home in the hot sun (Malaysia). But it's more rainy this season so I've noticed they put him in a cage about his size. Poor dog. My dad sez he feels like dognapping him.

Every time we drive to see our inlaws I see a german shepard tied to the same tree with the same maybe ten foot chain laying in the same spot like its lost its spark for life.

A SHEPHERD?? Omg! Don't say that! I have a GSD and I just can't even imagine doing this to my sweet boy:(. It makes me cry...

What about the opposite kind of uncaring? There are coutless dogs aloud to run freely in the area in which I live! Halfk of the time they are in the roads and they aren't in a hurry to get out of you're way either. It may not be a heavy traffic road but someone coming around a corner could easily wipe one or two out.

Just putting this out there. Couldn't you maybe make friends and casually mention you've noticed the dog is always outside and ask if there is maybe some behaviour problems they were experiencing that led them to leaving him outside? Then if that was the case you could direct them here to us to give then some "friendly" advice... or not so friendly advice hehe. Just kidding, but seriously some people are so naïve to what being a pet owner really means because of their upbringing and that cycle has to be broke sometime right? Anyway it's really sad and I hope something is done soon. Too bad you can't anonymously send a note in the mail hehe stating your distatste and concern. Good luck SweetDee!

I think perhaps the note in the door would be the best idea. People, in general, don't take well to being judged about putting their dogs out to live in a dog house for life. They must know that they are scrutinized, otherwise why would it be so difficult to have a conversation w/ them that doesn't lead into their behavior being so suspitious and so insulted.

I have had a few experiences in my life over this... it never ends up a nice conversation about a concern and a happy recipient of info they otherwise were not aware of. Lol! NEVER...

Since I'm trying to make a living in this town by dog training, it would not serve my business well to make enemies.

I'm not even entirely sure which dog goes where! There's at least half a dozen of them, and I'm pretty sure of which house te big brown fluffy one ( who SLEEPS in the road) belongs to, but as for the others there in one yard one day and another the next, but they don't look like strays. Since it is out in the country few people bother with fences, in fact I'm the only one I know of that has a fenced yard for at least 20 miles in any direction now that I think about it.
