    Tyco infloor heat cables
I have a tyco infloor heat cable that failed last spring. We heard a clicking sound from the circuit breaker panel and started to smell smoke from an area on the floor. We shut down the one zone and found the smell coming from an area by a wall. I still have 2 zones left and it looks like the zones are ran side by side on the lower level so we still have heat.

    Q. Can this be repaired?

    Q. Can I seporate the zones and put in a more efficient temp controls?

Just replace the defective areas with electric baseboard heaters. Unless you want to tear up the floors and replace all the cable. No legal under floor splices allowed that I am aware of. See manufactures install instructions/web site.

Thanks for the info. I think the cables are set parallel (all 3 circuits) on the entire 1800 square foot lower level, so with the 1 zone shut off at the circuit breaker panel we still have no cold areas yet. We'll see when temps hit -10* in Jan. Tom
