    The Bradley effect
    Hello:

Now that I've teased you, I'm not going to talk about the Bradley effect. I'm going to talk about Tom Bradley and ME. I know it doesn't have anything to do with current events... Actually, it's ancient history... But, I want to tell you anyway.

In 1968, forty years ago, Tom Bradley was the key note speaker at my inaugural dinner, when I was elected president of the Beverly Hills Young Democrats. He was there courting my support, because we were the biggest young democratic club in the state, and the adult party was in shambles. We had workers and money.

The previous president of my club, Henry Waxman, who encouraged me to run, was also in attendance, along with my vice president, Howard Berman (he's a congressman too).

Tom was a city councilman at that time running against Sam Yorty, the incumbent mayor of Los Angeles. Tom beat him in 1972 after I was long gone from politics. But, had Tom beat him in 1968, I would have been appointed Police Commissioner in Los Angeles, California...

Can you imagine that? YOUR excon?? I can't.

I'm sure you would've been a tough law enforcement advocate.

So when did you stop being a Democrat ?
