I wired r and w together at the furnace and it still won't work what could it be

I'm trying to hook up a new noma programmable thermostat from a old coleman thermostat but there are 7 wires on the coleman 1green 1 yellow 1 white b 1 black 1 pink and 1 light blue and the yellow jumped from y to w1
