Theft Under, 2nd Charge, 19 in Canada
I was arrested for Theft Under 5000 and possession of stolen property. In the disclosure I received from the Crown it says I am being charged with possession and theft over 5000 (which it certainly wasn't).
Can I somehow use that to my advantage in court?
Also, I made a video statement which I'd like a copy of. Do I need to petition the Crown for that?
I am 19 years old, and this is my second charge, (though first ever for theft), and the reality of jail is sinking in. A lawyer is obviously my best bet. What about character references, should I obtain them? What can I do to prove I'm able to turn it around and not face jail. I mean, all the community service and formal apologies in the world are fine with me: I'm very sorry. But is it in the judges hands? I want to fight it tooth and nail, but should I just plead mercy or insist that I'm a changed man?
Thanks for the help!
