I have been on the pill for 15 years. First I was on Dianette then a year ago I changed to jasmin. If I come off the pill will I lose any weight? I am slightly overweight.

How long can a women be on the pill for? Im 31 now and would like to try for children in a year or two. When should I come off the pill? Is it best to come off it now or closer to when I want to start trying for baby?

Im not a doctor or a nurse, but I was on microgynon 30 for just over 5 years. I took interest in finding about side-effects and any questions asked re: contrepative pill.

During the first few packs of the Pill, many women get minor, passing side effects, such as:

    Headaches
    Nausea
    Breast tenderness
    Slight weight gain
Slight 'spotting' of blood between the periods.

The general advice is that smokers should think about stopping the pill after the age of 30, and must change to another method at 35. Looking at it another way, 15 years of accumulated use of the pill should be the absolute maximum for a smoker (and they should stop earlier if they have developed other risk factors from a stroke such as high blood pressure).

Women who don't have added risk factors such as these, and who are using modern low-dose pills, may chose to continue until they hit the menopause.

Your best bet is to go to your local GP and he will give you professional answers to your questions.

I was taking the pill Jasmine for 5 years now and am 36 years old. My friend a naturalpath dietitian mentioned to me that there are many side effects with the pill and therefore I am now off. I remember when I started it, it was to eliminate headaches I would get the first few days of my period. My friend told me that there are far less side effects from an advil or tylenol or asprine, so I am going to just take those for a few days if I get headaches on my period.
What I hope is that I don't gain weight, when I started the pill I lost 5 pounds. When I told my friend this she said," 5 pounds that you can loose just by some work verses possible ovarian cancer or Multiple Sclorosis , the list went on.
The list of side effects won vs 5 pounds.
    Hope this is of help.
