70s or 80s movie with an abandoned baby
I am trying to find a movie I watched in the early 80s. It was taped off a PBS channel. A group of children find an abandoned baby and keep it in an abandoned house. They steal food, diapers, etc to care for the baby. In the end a man may have flown off in a hot air balloon. Sorry for the vagueness!

No sorry, no luck yet. It's funny that it's stuck in my mind so long. I have a few very clear memories of particular scenes. But no idea who any of the actors were or the title.

Sure, the kids were both boys and girls, one girl with long dark brown hair, and I think bangs. They were dressed pretty preppy. After they find the baby they hide her? In a cabin or abandoned house in the woods. They steal/sneak food from the table at a big family meal (long rectangular table with white table cloth), but don't know what a baby would like to eat, so there's that.

I think Quinn may be right - on this link, in the left hand corner there is a brief (very brief) summary matching your description
    Woodplum Movie Review (1982)
*edit* I know its in french - but here is a picture of the cover (poster?) for the film - it has the hot air balloon the op remembers...

That does seem like it. Maybe it was redone in English or dubbed and I didn't notice?

    You're good Quinn!
