I never moved in but gave 2 months rent
Hi, I was hoping I could receive a little advice regarding some rent issues. First off on Nov 10th I answered an add our local paper regarding a roommate. I went and checked it out and decided to give the landlord 2 months of rent. Well on the 16th of the same month I was offered a job that would be taking me out of state before the 1st of nov which was the day I was going to move in. Well my landlord seems to think that Im not entitled to my money back. We signed no lease, just a paper receipt stating I paid 2 months rent. I offered to pay to put her add back in the local paper and internet and that was not sufficient enough. Could someone please give me advice on if Im screwed or if I am entitled to my money back. Thanks, Andy

You can try to get your money back, but you must have done a verbal lease, and now you are the tenent for those 2 months so you are not really entitled to get back the money

I thought if I gave sufficient amount of time for her to get a new tenant that everything should be returned. She's saying now that 2 weeks of rent would be sufficient. Do you think I should accept that or try to counter offer with one week of rent. By the way rent was 750 a month. So losing 350 is not going to go to well but I could live with 175
