    This smelly old house
We recently purchased a 1920's home in TN, with full craw space. Although, area appears to be dry, we have a consistent moldy, kind of a dead smell in the house. :confused:What can we do to alleviate this problem? Also, the house has plastered walls. We were going to nail 1x1's on the plaster, then put up dry wall. I was told we should just tear out the walls. What do you think? The reason for the 1x1's, is so that the dry wall won't be applied directly to the plaster, to alleviate any bulging or cracks.

If you are planning to sheetrock anyway, I would remove the plaster and insulate the house. The results would be worth the effort.

I think you should get someone to check out the house for mold, it there is mold inside the walls you could get very sick

Ok, what about the crawspace? We think most of the smell may be coming from it. We don't see any evidence of mold or mildew on floors or walls.
