This works if your mp3 player or usb flash device works fine with other computers.
Registry
Warning If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. If uncomfortable with using Registry Editor, see if you can find someone who is comfortable and that you can Trust. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.
For XP Machines Only
"To reverse, just delete the new WriteProtect value (or set the value to 0) and restart the computer."Quote:
1) Click Start->Run.
2)Type regedit and hit enter.
4)Click on the plus sign next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
5)Click on the plus sign next to SYSTEM
6)Click on the plus sign next to CurrentControlSet
7)Click on the plus sign next to Control
8)Click on the plus sign next to StorageDevicePolicies
9)Write click on WriteProtect and click modify.
10)If the value data is 1 change it 0 and click OK.
11)Repeat steps 7 to 10 for ControlSet001 and ControlSet002 .
12)Close Registry editor and restart the computer.
-------------------------------------------------------------
If you don't find it in the registry, the best way is to create it yourself. Below is the procedure.
Start the Registry Editor
Go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control key
If there is no key called StorageDevicePolicies, create it
.
You do this by right-clicking the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SYSTEM \ CurrentControlSet \ Control key, and selecting New > Key from the menu.
Select the StorageDevicePolicies key
From the menu select Edit > New > DWORD Value
Name the new value WriteProtect
Right-click the WriteProtect value and choose Modify
In the Value Data: box enter 1
Exit the registry editor, and restart your computer
Is this vista or xp? Has worked for many people suggested to and has worked for me in past on a USB that uses XP, but at same time has not worked for all
As mentioned above, did you go into registry and create those keys if they did not exists?
Have you tried to format it?

Just found this info for first time, see if this will work
Download one of the following registry tweaks to enable or disable writing to USB drives.
Enable USB Write
http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/...leUSBWrite.zip
Disable USB Write
http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/...leUSBWrite.zip
Once you use the registry hack, you will have to reboot for the changes to take effect. One should also note that if you are using this trick, you should make sure that the users are not administrators on the computer, because they could easily change this setting back.
This works on Windows Vista as well.
Note: If all works out, this is machine specific - so if you go to another computer and you get read only, this tweak would have to be run on that machine also as this is a registry edit for the machine you are on.
Hiiii
Please check you are pen drive with different system if stiil it giving same error, It may be due to FAULTY PEN DRIVE.
Excellent info.
None of these solutions didn't worked for me...
None of these solutions didn't worked for me either and been trying for weeks. Windows 7 home premium. Now doing this on micro sd cards and any usb sticks put on this computer. Scanned for viruses also. Nothing. Ill keep looking for answers.
Sir this procedure is not working.so suggest me how I remove the write protection from my pen drive.
You could read this and them remove the write protection step by step:

If you go through the files on the drive and check that their properties for "read only" are turned off, that may let you format the drive (or at least delete the files). I had a few files that would not let me, but if I copied them to the hard drive then I could. Though in my case afterwords I was still able to format the drive and save my files to the PC.
I really fadeup of doing such procedure that I could not be succeed. Please, give me some more tips and tricks of doing so to remove the Write Protection error from my Pen Drive.
