Today our Lennox OF7-140M oil furnace continued to run long after the temperature was well above thermostat setting. I toyed with the dial thermostat to be sure it was behaving normal. I eventually turned off the furnace with the breaker.
After the furnace had set off for several hours I turned the thermostat well below the room temporature and then flipped on the breaker. The only noise I could hear at the furnace sounded like the pump, I waited a few minutes to see if any other noises happened. I went to the thermostat and turned it above the room temperature to see if that would change anything, it didn't. I then turned the thermostat back below room temperature and the pump noise stopped - all quiet. I turned the thermostat back above room temperature but nothing happens.
Again, I waited a while and then checked the push-button reset on the furnace, then turned the thermostat up. The furnace does not come on. Any ideas?

I believe your problem are beyond turning things off and on or up and down. You need to call for professional on site service before the weather gets cold. Your unit could probably use a good tune up. This will save you some $$$ this winter.
