    Giving up parental rights
I live in orlando Florida and I want to give up my rights to my 4 year old son and just have his mother raise him. How can I do this? Do I have to hire an attorney or can I just write something up have it notorized and file it with the courthouse? I am an convicted felon who broke my ex girlfriends neck and want nothing to do with my son.

Are you sure this is what you want to do? I would think hard and long before making that descion. Even though you're a felon OK me 2 and you've done some crappy things .What do you want to do? Live the life your leading or change? You can be a great role model for you kid if you wanted to.. But if you choose not call the clerks office at the court house and you can get a packet which you can fill out which helps you terminate your rights as a parent... Be good to yourself...

You probably can't. Generally a court will not grant a TPR except under extreme circumstances. If you don't want to have anything to do with your son, then don't.

You would have to get an attorney to file a petition to terminate rights,

No one will force you to call or visit or send cards or anything like that. So really all you have to do is not act on your rights. You do have responsibilities toward that child but that just means you pay support. Judges don't just terminate rights because you don't want to be involved the mother generally has to be remarried to a man that wants to adopt. I'm not sure where mishelly3 is getting their information but it is incorrect.

It is very possible if you went to prison that she can go to court and TAKE your right away, but you can not just give it up.

So all you do is never call, don't ever see the child and poof you are not using any right what so ever. Of course even giving up your rights, you still have to send that child support payment.
