Okay so I got this piece of crap self built computer, I've had some serious issues like accidentally erasing the HDD, frying the Motherboard, blower out the power supply. All my fault. So now Ive had this janky installation of Windows XP on my PC for about 10 months. The guy who had to fix it did some stuff and I guess forgot to install the freaking system restore function? Cause it doesn't work.

My computer will not :
Start Windows Normally
Start in Safe Mode (ANy of them)
F10 for System restore isn't responding on boot up

I start up my comp, get through the HP invent splash screen.
Now I get to the "Windwos did not start succesfully..." and none of the options work. They all go to the WIndows splash screen then restart the comp. Rinse and repeat. I don't have any of my Windows CDs so reinstalling it is out of the question =/ I guess its time for a new comp after 5 years... Heh:o

Did you also try F8 on start up?

See if this will work

Would try a system restore point from DOS prompt

On my computer it's F11 at startup to access the Recovery Console.

BTW, I have to disagree. Computers from 5 years ago are completely usable. It would be WAY less money to buy a fresh copy of Windows XP and install it yourself. Wipe the hard drive completely in the process, find yourself with a peppy new computer.

I just did this very thing. I took TWO 5 year old computers and put the HDs from both into one of the cases and reformatted, reinstalled, and upgraded the memory to almost max for the unit. The computer is now "new" for me and works awesome.

WAY cheaper to wipe your HD and reinstall than to buy a whole new computer. WAY cheaper.
