    The Democratic "culture of corruption"
In the 2006 election (and beyond), Democrats campaigned hard on the "Republican culture of corruption" using Mark Foley as the poster child for its campaign. It turns out Tim Mahoney, the married man that ran against Foley promising "a world that is safer, more moral," apparently "agreed to a $121,000 payment to a former mistress who worked on his staff and was threatening to sue him, according to current and former members of his staff who have been briefed on the settlement" and "also promised the woman, Patricia Allen, a $50,000 a year job for two years at the agency that handles his campaign advertising."

The affair was taking place while "Mahoney was campaigning for Congress against Foley." No problem though, "Senior Democratic leaders in the House of Representatives, including Rep. Rahm Emanuel (D-IL), the chair of the Democratic Caucus, have been working with Mahoney to keep the matter from hurting his re-election campaign." It might even earn him a new committee position from Pelosi.

Yes, this is the kind of change the Democrats bring to Washington.

It never left Washington. Congress, on both sides of aisle, is not in position to get into a pi$$ing matches over morals. However on the issue, as a voter, I'm respectful of Barack Obama for having been faithful to his wife, "Michelle." As for John McCain, well he dumped his wife after his return home from Nam in favor of his current trophy wife, "Cindy."

No, neither side has much to brag on here, but harping on McCain dumping his first wife is a really pathetic attack. It happens, Bobby, how many divorced couples do you know? And for the record, McCain had the integrity to accept responsibility, which is more than I can say for Obama on virtually every weakness he's had, his pastor, Ayers, Rezko, ACORN - Obama dodges responsibility for everything.

McCain said of his first marriage it was "my own selfishness and immaturity. … I cannot escape blame by pointing a finger at the [stress of] war. The blame was entirely mine." His first wife Carol said this year "I have no bitterness." The only people with whom it's an issue are you adoring Obama fans, everyone else has reconciled and moved on. So why are you people of "change" dwelling on what happened nearly 30 years ago that is of absolutely no consequence to this election?

Huh? You posted on the issue of morals and used the example of high profile Democrat that was cheating on his wife, had a mistress on the side, and stated "Yes, this is the kind of change the Democrats bring to Washington."

I bring up the fact that Washington has made a mockery of morals on both sides of the aisle, and a little reminder of John McCain's personal history, but you reply that it was "pathetic attack."

Email this post to your pastor and ask him if he sees the hypocrisy.

Why has the ethics committee not been called into special session ? Why did Rahm Emanuel cover this up ? Why is there no ethics hearings on the abuses of power by Charles Rangel ? Why have they not forced Tim Mahoney to step down ?

Why doesn't the press make this front page news for the next 3 weeks ?

Frankly the hypocrisy is in how it is dealt with ;not that one side or the other has sleeze bags.

    Hello:

I don't know. Did the media go from being conservative to liberal in just 4 years?? Wow. I'da thunk it would have took longer. How is it, that the dufus could be elected WITH A REPUBLICAN CONGRESS, and the main stream media being in the pocket of his rival?? Hmpf. I kind of don't think he would have.

But, this is old stuff from you Republicans... If you don't like the message, shoot the messenger...

That's like attacking the Catholic church whenever a priest gets himself into trouble with a little boy.

All I want to know is why doesn't Mahoney get the same treatment in the press that Foley got ? I know it would be too much to ask the Democrats to treat it the same. At the time of Foley Rahm Emanuel was very vocal in his condemnations of the Republican cover-up.

    Hello again, tom:

Why?? It isn't news when Democrats commit heterosexual acts, even outside of marriage. It IS news, when the ANTI-GAY right wing finds a homosexual amongst its ranks.

I would have thought you could figure that stuff out.

You know what- I don't really care who is jumping into whose bed. I didn't care when Clinton messed around with his secretary. Keep 'em happy- let them get a little something every once in awhile. When they start screwing up- that's when I'll start attacking their sex lives.

Gee, it wasn't news when Edwards was outed for his affair? It IS news, especially when the guy is having his affair during his campaign following the Democrats' "Republican culture of corruption" theme with a promise of "a world that is safer, more moral."

    Hello again, Steve:

You're really grabbing at straws, aren't you? Besides, you're defeating toms argument that the liberal left wing press leaves Democrats alone.

Maybe Mahoney doesn't get press, BECAUSE NOBODY KNOWS WHO HE IS!! I certainly, don't, and I know everybody. On the other hand, people HAVE heard of Edwards.

How can a group of people be hypocrites if their mantra is tolerance... OF EVERYTHING ;)

Correct, and since some can't grasp that concept an explanation is in order:

McCain dumps first wife = the sleaze

McCain admits error and publicly claims all responsibility = repentance

Former wife has “no bitterness” and has remained friends with and backed him in all his campaigns = forgiveness and reconciliation

Continuing to punish a man who has repented and reconciled = pettiness, mercilessness, vindictiveness, spitefulness

    My pastor would agree.

Well there is also bribes and unlawful use of campaign funds and a bunch of other violations of the public trust involved of course . But if a Democrat is doing it ; like inthebox just correctly pointed out ,there are no ethical problems broached by people who think that all moral standards are subjective ; so who cares ?

Grabbing at straws? You really can't see the hypocrisy? Edwards was a presidential candidate, the Dems VP nominee in the previous election, the guy went on Nightline, the timing hurt nothing - they HAD to cover him - at least get it through one news cycle. When it comes to Republicans they keep it in the mix for as long as they can.

Um, EVERYONE knew about Foley. The media, the blogs, the Huffpos, the Kossacks, the DUers, everyone made darn sure we knew about Foley. The Democrats crafted an entire campaign around him. We're supposed to brush off the sleaze of the guy who took his place after all that?
