    Laying laminate flooring
I'm in the process of laying laminate flooring in a bathroom and need to cut the laminate to fit around the base of the toilet and the basin pedestal. Is there any gadgets that you can buy to help create a template? Alternatively, has anyone got any advice on how this can best be achieved. I'm unable to slide the laminate under the toilet or the pedestal as these have been fixed to the floor already.

    Many Thanks

As for the toilet, you need to remove the toilet and install the laminate up to a 1/4" perimeter around the flange (the round thing that the toilet bolts stick up through).

I've not done laminate around a pedistal before, but if it were me I'd pull it out, do the floor, then set it in exactly where it should go, mark it, then use a Dremel or mini circular saw to cut out the laminate.

Stay tuned, though, it's early; there are several good interior home improvement folk here; others may be along later today.

I had this long answer for you but I guess I took to long and it wouldn't post.
Anyway, like rickj said remove the toilet, it will save you a big hassle.
As for the pedestal, look up under the sink to see if the sink basin is hanging on a steel mounting bracket. If it is you more than likely you can gently lift the sink and remove the pedestal section and the basin will hang there w/o a problem.
If your handy and it appears ypou are, doing this slight plumbing won't be to hard.
If you run into any trouble, Tom (speedball) in plumbing is a click away.

If you need any advice installing the floor, post back.

It's true that the best way to lay laminate is to remove the toilet and pedestal but it's not always possible, for example when the waste pipe goes horizontally out of the wall.

In this case, take a piece of thin cardboard and offer it up against the piece of laminate nearest the base of the toilet. Push downwards on the card to mark the edge of the previous floorboard and then push the card into the toilet base. Cut downards from the top of the card until you reach the floor. Move an inch to either side cutting the card and pushing it into the toilet base.

Place the template you've created onto the next board and mark it out with pencil. Cut the board using a jig saw and then lay it down.
