I have been peeing blood for 2 years. I used to have ITP and I also have a positive ANA. I have been through surgery in my bladder and they did a liquid x ray on my kidneys I have also had ultra sounds on my kidneys . I have been tested for stds and any possible uti infection. All are negative. The doctors say they don't know what's wrong with me and it will probably pass with time well I have waited 2 years, I also became pregnant twice after my incident with the blood in my urine. And they say I have a 40% chance of giving full term birth. Could this be related with my blood in my urine? And has anyone had an expierience with this? I would like to know more information on this and if it could possibly be serious or not or if it will go away like the doctors say. Also might I add that when I pee its not always blood like one minute I'm peeing blood which might I add can be dark red color or a brown tea color. And then the next minute I am peeing clear or a slight yellowish which is normal. And also when I pee blood I know I am going to pee blood sometimes before I do because it feels like a pressure in my pee hole. And it kind of stings a little bit. Plus now I have no insurance and I simply cannot afford it! Someone please help me I need answers information anything!! :confused:

Well, I don't think I can be of much help considering I do not know what ITP or ANA stand for. Hopefully you can get better advice off this board, there are a lot of professionals and knowledgeable people on this site.

Not sure that this will help, but I too have blood in my urine. You said you see the blood when you pee, however I do not. I usually find out that I have blood in my urine by way of a routine urinalysis. I do have a bladder disease though called Intersticial Cystitis (IC). It is a disease in the lining of the bladder. I have a very, very small bladder, and the doc said because I pee so much the lining inside my bladder becomes dry and cracks which causes wounds, which allows blood to be released from the wounds into the urine. I had surgery for this condition, and there were several wounds inside my bladder, which they cauterized, and for 5 years I had no UTI's, no more pain when peeing, no more blood in my urine... nothing. However, it's back. I guess another scope inside the bladder would be a good idea for me.

For you however, you said you had a bladder scope/surgery, so I would assume if you had IC they would have saw it and fixed it then, if that is what you had. It sounds like they did a pretty good work up on the urology side of the problem so, it is possible that your problem lies elsewhere, female reproductive organs, etc. But really I do not know for sure and anything I said would be a guess at best. I hope you are able to recover and I hope you do not worry yourself too much about it. Feel better soon, and I hope you are somehow able to afford getting to a doctor in the near future. That would probably do you some good with regard to the anxiety also.

ITP, Ideopathic Throbocytopenia Purpura, is a bleeding disorder... so this may be the root of the problem. Positive ANA means that the body is positive for Antinucear Antibodies, which is a test that is run when looking for autoimmune disorders such as Lupus for instance. However, there are quite a few false positive ANAs out there.

I would suggest that your doctor look deeper into your health history to find out if you do in fact have an autoimmune disease that is causing this.

A couple of far out possibilities to consider. I had a friend who ran in the Chicago Marathon (25 miles) without having trained. It took her a very long time, and afterwards, she had a problem urinating blood probably because she injured her kidneys. (I haven't seen her since)

I have a high tolerance for pain and a high frequency of "painful"urination(due to sitting in a wheelchair and having incontinence and semi-frequent diahrrhea which can cause any e-coli that happens to be in that location to wick up my urethra-my supposition), that come and go. My immune system is able to handle this low grade problem almost all the time, thank heavens!

I would think you are getting bacteria in your urethra from some source... oral sex or e-coli from wiping forward, instead of backward, or whatever...

Just some thoughts.

Thanks for the information. Well I know it isn't an infection or what not in my urethra considering the fact that they have scoped my bladder in and out and I'm sure they would have figured that out by now. Now I was supposed to be sent to kalamazoo for a kidney biopsy. But since I don't have insurance I cannot afford to go especially because of gas prices. Also one thing that I may note is that when I pee blood sometimes its really bubbly. And with my ANA how long can you have a false positive because I have had a few test on my ANA and they all come out positive and I know it wasn't any meds I was on. They sent me to a specialist in kalamazoo and they figured I had Lupus but she says I didn't have enough factors to prove that I did indeed have it. The only thing I had was ITP, blood in urine, and a positive ANA. And they all are associated with lupus sometimes. But since she says I didn't have enough factors they believe its my kidneys. Is there anything that I shld look for like symptoms when it come to bad kidneys?? And thanks again for your answers ill be happy to hear more.

Well, you already have plenty of symptoms to believe it could be bad kidneys... ESPECIALLY the bubbling.

I do understand the dilemma with no insurance, I have been there done that with cancer. Remember though that no one can deny you treatment based on insurance. It would be what is called an EMTALA violation.

Without proper kidney function toxins build up in your body and at a certain level can become potentially dangerous.

Kalamazoo, as well as Lansing, has a great teaching hospital where you may get a break on expenses to the point where they may actually be free.

Thanks a lot actually today I was looking into getting some health insurance at work, I am just not sure if I can afford it yet. Do you know if there would be anymore symptoms I should be looking for when it comes to the kidneys?

Oh important might I also add that I started peeing blood a week or two after I got a splenectomy done at riley hospital. Could this also be a reason?

You had a splenectomy? Are you taking your daily meds?

Yes I had a splenectomy. But I am supposed to take penecillin but I don't. I haven't taken that in like a year but I doubt my meds are the reason.

You may have a problem with insurance, because now it is a pre-existing illness.

Your meds may just be part of the reason. You see, once your spleen is removed you are considered immunosuppressant. This means that you run a higher risk of getting all sorts of infections, including urinary tract infections, than does the average person.

Have you been prescribed corticosteroids?

Yes when I had itp I was on steroids but I have already been checked for a uti and the doctors said I was fine and I had no infection! And when I started peeing blood I was still taking my penecillin!

Forgive me if you have answered this already, but have you been tested for kidney stones?

You see, without knowing your entire medical history, and without being able to review your medical records, I am just grasping at straws trying to help you out.

Oh its no problem ask me all you need to. Yes they have tested me for that I believe they tested for it when they did a ct and a ultra sound on my kidneys. Plus I have no pain in my kidneys. They also checked to see if it was inflamed but it wasn't. Also the blood flow on my kidneys was normal.
