    Plug in a lamp in top receptacle, and tester in the bottom. If something has no voltage under load, it is usually a loose connection, corroded buss under breaker, loose wire on breaker, or neutral bar.

    What is the standard horizontal distance between sockets or outlets in a house? Is it written in electrical code?
