Hello,
My daughter touched the hot side of an exposed 110 outlet and got a shock. She immediately removed her hand, but had a bit of light-headedness, and a pain in her other hand, which was on the carpet (upstairs on wood frame house). She seems totally fine now, and has no pain (one hour after the incident).

My question: Could this have damaged her, and should we take her in to see a doctor?

I get hit every now and then (Estimated--once or twice per year), even almost killed on one occasion, and never went to see a doctor. But, it doesn't hurt to have her checked if she is having pain. Also, 120v hit could cause an irregular heart beat. So, having her checked wouldn't be a bad idea!

Luckily she was not grounded, pretty much insulated by the carpet and wood. If the juice went in one hand and out the other with a good ground it would be a sad story to tell. I'd get her checked immediately but chances are she will be fine. Adults, we just chaulk it up and file that in our what not to do list.

That's a very bad arrangement to get shocked from. Arm to arm is directly across the heart muscle. It doesn't take much current to disrupt the heart.

A little bit of adult supervision goes a long way. Why was your daughter near an exposed outlet?

Take it from someone who has been there... I was shocked from hand to hand right across the heart and ended up with an irregular heartbeat that was corrected after a bit of meds and time... get her checked out, pronto!
