I just moved to Florida for an internship. Included in the deal is a stipend and housing provided. The company rents out some apartments in a complex that knows exactly what's going on, and we all live there. They are saying that they are coming by for 'unnanounced inspections.' I was wondering: Our apartment is clean, our utility bills are low, and we've never had a problem. Are unnanounced inspections legal? As a legal subletter do I still have the same rights (which in Florida is 12 hours notice before a landlord can enter the property)?

I don't want to start a fight with my company, but I want them to respect my privacy. How do I convey that without sounding difficult?

Do they explain the reason for the inspections? Do you have a lease and does it state anything about this?

You really aren't a subletter since they are providing the housing. So the legal protections for a tenant wouldn't apply.

You might check your employment contract. It may refer to this.

Who is your lease with (do you have one)? And who is doing the inspecting? A company representative or the landlord?

Reminds me of "surprise locker inspections" in high school.
