I live in California and my sister is pregnant and lives in Virginia. She has agreed to let me and my husband adopt her daughter when she is born, but how do I go about starting the process? The father is unknown to my sister. She wants no ties what so ever to the baby. She wants the baby to stay in the family. How do we go about a private adoption?

You get a lawyer, and your sister goes to a counselor who specializes in adoption--that would be a good place to start.

Have you found out any info about this? I'm trying to do the same thing. I'm adopting my unborn niece in Cal and I live in NV.
