My well pump quit pumping water. The pump runs and there is pressure but no water comes out. This system has been working fine ever since it was insralled several years ago. When the electricity to the pump motor is shut off the pressure tank gurgles for a while and then stops. The pressure remains.:)

Where is there pressure? Pressure with no water? How can this be.

There is 45lbs pressure reading on the gauge on the water tank. That is also what I can't understand. How can there be pressure and no water??

The gauge is probably defective. Does your tank have an air valve at the top? If so, use a tire air gauge and check the pressure there.

This tells me that your gage is faulty and the pump has lost its prime. There should be a small threadeed opening on top of the impeller cage. It could either have a gage or a plug. Shut the pump off and remove the plug or gage. Pour water into the hole until it overflows,( if you can't get it to fill then let me know) close the hole and turn the pump on. You should be getting water now. And replace your gage. Good luck, Tom

Good suggestion. However know that the reading should be the same as the gage reading, unless all pressure is off the system. Even with no pressure to the system, you should still read between 30 and 40psi at the top of the tank( unless you have a really old galv tank). Most tanks have a bladder and should have pressure at the valve stem at all times.
If your pump has lost its prime, you may have a bad check valve (or foot valve).
