New presby type leaching area awful septic gas smell
    Hello:

We have just had a new leachfield installed. The tank and connection to the house were OK. This is a presby system. Since this was I nstalled there is an awful back up of sewer gases into the house and outside as well. The engineer has reviewed the system and the area seems to be working. Note the system is huge for a single family home. There is a candycane pipe at the field for intake.

I have also purchased an "Odorhog" that fits ontop of the vent pipe and attempts to expel gases better through the sue of a solar powered fan unitl.

This is bad and I need some advise.

    Thanks \

    Hey Brooklyn,
Back in the 40's I sailed out of the Brooklyn Army Base bringing troops back from Europe. Love that town!

What vent are you talking about? Would this be the septic tank vent or the house vent? Is this where the smell's coming from? Back to you, Tom

So you are addressing the roof top vent stack with a Odorhog but lets also take a look at that candycane in the back yard. Take plastic wrap and some duct tape and seal it temporarily, does that make any difference in your problem? Changing a field should not make additional sewer gas back up.

unless there's backpressure involved out in the system. This would expel sewer gas out the tank vent. Give us more details and your thoughts. Regards, tom
