Can't find fan motor capacitor - Rheem
We have a Rheem Heat Pump that apparently has either a bad (outside) fan motor capacitor or a bad fan motor. I was going to replace the capacitor, but can't locate it. I have seen a picture of one and someone told me it was silver, but still can't find. Is there a parts manual or pictures somewhere online, that would help locate the unit? The model is: RPND 030J. Also, if you take it off, can you take it somewhere and have it checked? Thanks for any help.

Follow the wires. There will be 3 or 4 wires from the motor. 2 will go to the contactor, 1 or 2 will go to the capacitor. You will usually find it next to the relay (contactor). It may be cylindrical or an oval cylinder.

If there are only two wires on the motor, that's a special case.

Most newer units will, more than likely, have what is called a dual capacitor. It is for both the fan motor and compressor and will have 3 sets of terminals. They are usually imprinted with 'FAN', 'COMP' and 'C'.

Both keep and mark are correct. When you do locate the cap, yes you can take it to any hvac or electrical shop and have it tested. Also try giving the fan a push by hand to see if you can't get it going. If this works, it can still be either your motor or capacitor. If it doesn't work, it is most likely your motor. Please let me know what you find.
