I recently installed a bathroom drain and now it seems that it's starting to leak. The leak is coming from either the tail end of the trap or the top end for the trap. I think it maybe even leaking from where the drain meets the bottom of the sink.

I attempted to put plumbers putty to slove the issue but it did not help. I am thinking of using silicone? What should I do?

When you set the drain into the sink did you use plumbers putty between the chrome ring and the inside of the sink, most common site of a new leak with a new drain.

You need to determine exactly where the leak is for us to advise best! Silicone is not the answer.

Get a strong light out and then dry the underneath pipes real well. Then fill the sink to rim and then drain sink. Determine where leak is and then refer to my picture below so you can tell us exactly where the leak is.

There is at least 5 different places where it can leak from. First, ID and locate the problem and get to us with exact location of the leak.

Well I think it is most likely Reno will tell us the water is dripping out from around the nut and washer and probably won't have clue where it actually got in. If he'd come back and tell us if he put putty on the flange we could start walking down the list.

The putty was put on the flange.

By looking at the diagram provided by massplumber, last time I checked the leak is coming from the bottom of part RP6 128 where it meets the trap and the tail end of the trap.

Did you use teflon tape or pipe dope on the threads of RP6128 before you spun the tailpiece in??

This is probably the most common leak I see with pop-up assembly...

No I did not use any teflon or dope.

Should I use Teflon?

Wrap teflon tape clockwise around the threads of part # RP6128... say 5 or 6 wraps and then spin it in handtight. Then use pliers to give a 1/4 to 1/2 turn more and you should be all set with this!

I seemed to fix where the leak was happening, and then I noticed it leaking (when looking at the diagram provided by masplumber) at part RP6140. So I tighten the gasket which did the trick. I also found that it was leaking where the gasket is on the tail piece connected from the wall.

I ended up putting a plumbers thread sealant and it stopped.

Please advise if there is anything else I can do.
