    Current holder of my mortgage
I have a property mortgage wherein both the mortgage AND associated note have been sold. I want to determine WHO really has bought and holds the mortgage at this time. The current Bank is Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. and property location is 1586 Old Charlotte Road Spartanburg, SC 29307. I do not believe that Well Fargo NOW holds the Mortgage/Note. Can I search for the REAL holder?

Yes, go to the Town Clerks office and they will direct you to the right files to look it up

It's not necessarily the Town - in my State it's the County. I would call before going to the Town to check.

Actually, there are two issues here. First there is who owns the actual notes and who SERVICES the loan. They may be two different entities. Also, I doubt if the lien is changed whenever the paper is sold so the local registrar (be it town or county) may not know who the current owner is. The best place to ask is with the loan servicer. That should know who they send the payments to.
