I have basic cable, and just bought an older television with no remote, model #KP-7220.
I am almost positive that I can run the cable through the vcr, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to make the vcr change channels and basically run like a cable box. I am almost sure that this vcr has been run like that before and would like to get my channels back. The model # on the vcr is pv-v4020. Please help!

There is an F-connecter (cable) labeled IN and one labeled OUT. Connect the CABLE signal to IN and the TV to OUT.

Now there should be a small switch on he back of the VCR labeled CH3/CH4. Pick the station that isn't used and select that. Put the TV on that channel.

I have no idea of thre brand nor can I locate the manual for the VCR.

You typically need a HRC tuner for cable. With HD, the tuner has to QAM or something like that. The VCR may or may not support this.

In any event Stations below channel 6 should work on the VCR in cable or non cable mode, unless the cable company is using a QAM signal because of the change to HI DEF.

Does the TV tune the cable and what channel does it stop?

If you connect as suggested as I don't have any other information, The VCR will act as pass tru when off?

Is this the case?

When the VCR turns on, the channel selected on the VCR must match the TV and the VCR should be able to tune the cable UNLESS the VCR has the wrong tuner in it for the cable system.

It would seem that's the way things are heading with the choice being:

1. Your cable box converts to cha 3/4
2. If you don't have a cable box then you need a QQAM tuner for HD.

Your VCR should have a channel switch on it and/or the remote. From the remote you should be able to cycle through the channels or directly go to one on the numeric keypad.

Are you putting the TV/VCR button on VCR?
Does the VCR have a tuner?
But, as stated you should be getting channels on the TV (manually selected) when the VCR is off, also.

Some VCRs have to run the channel scanning in order for you to change the channel from the front of the unit or from a universal remote. Most of the functions are only available through the remote. But if you can get to the menu in the vcr without the remote run the autoscan.
