We have had the joy of being told we would be hooked into sewer but then the city retracted. So now we have no choice but to repair our failing leach lines. We have never had to do anything that major and have no idea how much to budget for this project. Is there an average cost for this sort of thing? How do we know if the bids we receive are fair or a rip? Let me add that the house was built in '61 and to our remembrance the leach lines have never been repaired or replaced. This is the house my husband's grandfather built, both his mother and he have grown up in, and yes now we are continuing the tradtion... We know that the tank has been redone or replaced within the last 10 years (before I was around). A large number of homes on this street are suffering from failure... only a few of us are looking into the LEGAL way to do this, so please no illegal answers.

No one can estimate the cost of a septic system without being there to lay it out. Get three estimates for your drain field and go with the one you're most comfortable with. Good luck, Tom

Tom gave the only valid answer, get 3 bids from reputatble contractors. Labor and materials as well as your soil are all unknown.

Your sewer contractor(s) will have to figure out the house waste output and do a percolation test to determine how elaborate system they have to install.

As mentioned in previous posts, you should get few estimates before you commit. Don't forget to ask lots of questions as well as ask for warranty on the installation.
