    First thing is to rearrange so that all the terms with c in them are on one side, and all the terms without c are on the other:

    bc+3c = 5-a

    Now pull out the c as a common term on the right hand side:

    c(b+3) = 5-a

    Now divide though by (b+3):

    c = (5-a)/(b+3)
