Hi guys


My partner and I have know been trying for our second child for 18 months
With nothing happening. :( we are both 23 year old we have been doing the billing method for nine months know .

I have also been to see my gp and she is saying that I am ovulating but the only thing she dose not understand is I went from a 28 day cycle to what looks to be a 36 day cycle as I still have not gotten my period yet.:confused:

My last period was on the 27th of August 08 and my gp did a blood test on the 8th of September with no results so we did another test on the 15th and then on the 22nd and she is saying I have ovulated between those two dates . But I am still unsure to when my period will come :confused:

Can anyone help with this and help us to get pregnant:)


p.s I have been trying not to stress about not getting pregnant , but it has been had when one of my friends have just falling pregnant and keeps rubing it in to me... :mad:

Oh I hate it when your trying to get pregnant and everyone else around you gets there! But the simple matter is that if you're not sure when you'll ovulate or get a period, have as much sex as possible. I heard of a couple who challenged each other to have sex every day for an entire year and they say it became a game, maybe you should challenge your hubby to have sex with you every day for a month, then I'm sure something could happen. Little quirky but hope it helped good luck!

I learned a lot through FAM (Fertility Awareness Method) which you can read about in Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It really helps you identify the exact time you are fertile each month.

Was the testing your gp did specifically to determine whether you were ovulating? With regular periods it is generally assumed someone is most likely ovulating, but that does not guarantee it. Only way to know for sure if you are ovulating is to test for it.

There are several ways you can use to get a good idea that you probably are... temping and charting, using opks, watching for cervical changes (Billings Method), etc.. Might be wise to have partner checked as well. It does happen that some couples will experience what is known as secondary infertility... not conceiving even after having had previous children.

One guide, for when you have irregular cycles, is to count back 18 days from your shortest cycle and 11 days back from your longest cycle... this will give you a rough estimate of when you are most likely fertile. (I would add a few on either end for good measure).

Of course, your ovulation may not fall within that window of time, so if possible, maybe have sex every other day most of your cycle and start having it every day when you think you may be a few days before ovulation. The trick is keeping it fun and not a chore... which can easily happen when you are watching the calendar and counting days.

If after trying for several more months, if you don't fall pregnant, your gp may consider doing further testing on both of you. Fingers crossed!

Hi all my gp was testing to see if we were ovualting and we are which is good... but we a test on the 8th of septmeber and I got the results saying mid cycle so we did another test on the 15th and the 22nd and they were saying I ovulated between those two dates...

The other thing is I went from a 28 day cycle and its know day 33 since my last period this has only ever happened to me once which was 3 years ago just before I found out I was pregnant with my little girl... so I do not know what is going on , my boobs have been tender for the past week...

You did have a blood test to check for possible pregnancy as well, correct? Perhaps your period is just off this cycle... it happens, and there isn't always a definitive reason to be found for it. Might still show up late, might skip it altogether only to get back on track next month.
If still no period after another week, try another pregnancy test.
If not pregnant, and whether period shows, you may way to see about partner being tested as well since you have been trying for 18 months. It is not uncommon for there to be a male component that is prohibiting conception.

I have been trying to get pregnant too but its not working me and my boyfreind been together for 2 years and 6months and we tried all this month!

Shanice- the first time I tried to get pregnant, I was with my boyfriend for five years, this does not matter! And it took me four months to get pg. give it some time, if you stress too much, you may block your own way to success. And I believe that dr's don't consider you having anything wrong unless you've been trying for over a year with no success. I'm sure you are fine and enjoy the sex!!

Jessica, I went though this too with my second child. It took us almost 2 years to get pregnant. It seems like when you relax it will happen but while your stressing it won't. Here are some more tips to help you along the way.You might want to experiment with different conception positions during intercourse. In order to become pregnant, your partner must deposit his sperm as close as possible to your cervix. Certain positions will allow this to happen more easily. Avoid having sex while standing, sitting, or with you on top, as this can cause semen to leak out of your body. Instead, try the missionary position, which allows for deeper penetration. Rear entry intercourse is also effective, as it allows your partner to deposit semen closer to your cervix. To keep any extra semen from leaking out of you, try elevating your hips for fifteen minutes or so after your have sex.


Also, you have to eat right.Eating right plays an important role in your body's fertility. A balanced diet helps to regulate hormones and nourish your reproductive system. A good diet also helps you to maintain a healthy weight, which can greatly impact fertility. Women who are underweight or overweight may have a harder time becoming pregnant because body fat levels impact the production of sex hormones.

It is especially important to include certain vitamins and minerals in your diet. Try to include:
Vitamin C and Antioxidants: these vitamins prevent sperm defects and boost sperm motility. They also reduce stress on your eggs and reproductive organs.
Zinc: zinc deficiencies have been linked with reduced testosterone and semen levels.
Calcium and Vitamin D: A daily, dose of these nutrients have been shown to help increase male fertility.

Things to avoid are:
Alcohol: alcohol can reduce your fertility levels by up to 50%. It can also decrease sperm count and increase the production of abnormal sperm.
Caffeine: caffeine, found in coffee, teas, cola, and chocolate, has been proven to reduce both male and female fertility levels.
Xenoestrogens: xenoestrogens are estrogens found in environmental chemicals and pesticides. Produce and other foods can have high levels of xenoestrogens, which, if ingested, may disturb your balance of hormones. Imbalaced hormones are often the cause of fertility issues.
Also smoking can delay it because of chemicals in cigarettees.

Lastly, exercise can also be a good natural fertility treatment. When combined with a balanced and nutritious diet, exercise can help you to maintain a healthy body weight. Aerobic workouts like walking, swimming, and cycling is good.

On other things I got my period on Monday so that puts me a 33 day cycle which is very different but it's the what my body has done so I guess I have to see if my next one is the same so then I can work out when is the best time to have sex...

I would try acupuncture to de-stress u, as that sounds like it could be the cause. I would also try eating a lot of lettuce - my boss was trying to get pregnant for ages, she went to a natural health clinic and they told her she was deficient in folate and to go home and eat a whole lettuce - she was pregnant in 3mths.
