My son is making significantly less than he was making when the child support of $300.00 a week was set for 2 children. He is a desiel tec for Ford and he has all his pay stubs from the beginning of this year also his tax return from 2007 is less than the year before. He has been divorced for 2 years now. Being he has all his supporting documents of proof of at least 1/2 less than he use to make,( economy is taking a hold on many people) He cannot aford an attorney they want $2000.00 up front. He actually don't make enough to pay his chils support.
My question here is: can he file for a modification his self w/o an attorney since he has his proof?

He certainly can try - keep in mind that the mother of the children is most probably NOT going to agree and IS going to be represented by an Attorney. Your son will be at a distinct disadvantage.

Some Courts are more user-friendly than others and that will factor into the decision.

He is in Ga. I don't know the laws but I did call for legal help from the state and they don't help with child support

No, I didn't mean legal help from the State. I meant you would go to the Court, talk to the Clerk, file the papers without an Attorney. Some Courts are very user friendly and will help you; others will not.

If he lives in or around the Atlanta area he may ask at the couple of law schools there to see if they have any assistance

What he has to do is make a motion for a modification of the support order based on income, and then provide documentation of such. Actually even paying an attorney by the hour for just doing the paper work may be an idea. Often in Georgia, they will not even have a real hearing, the judge will ask both sides for documents and make a ruling based on those without either side appearing in court.
