    Sick/lethargic puppy
I have an almost 5 month old puppy who has vomitted 3 times since yesterday. Now today he has diarrhea. He does not want to eat or play and he is not his normal playful self. Does anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

Has he had all his shots?

Puppies dehydrate very quickly - I would take him to a Vet.

Puppies also bounce back very quickly - when I hear vomitting and diarrhea I become afraid of parvo.

He has had all his shots - he got the last set on 9/8/08. He started feeling a lot better last night. I am going to call the vet but I think it might be his food.

    Thanks

I had previously worked as a Vet Tech and when this sort of thing happens to a animal especially a puppy it should not be over looked. Whenever a animal is vomitting/diarrhea and not eating/drinking there is a serious problem. It could be anything from dehydration to parvo (parvo is very common in puppies). Get this puppy to a vet immediately before anything could get worse.

EDIT Noticed you said the puppy got all his shots, I am pretty sure the puppy has got the parvo shot then? I hope your puppy gets better!

    They just dehydrate so quickly.

    Did you change his food?

I'm sure it wasn't his food...

I hope all turned out well w/ your sweet pup. I hope you can come back and let us know what ended up happening and what the vet's prognosis was...

You should go to the vet if he has not been better. The same thing happened to my puppy. He would not stop vomitting, he stopped eating and drinking; and then he would have diarrhea. We were going to wait to go to the vet because it was around Thanksgiving and they were closed, but when we came home after going out for a bit, he had diarrhea with blood so we immediately took him to an emergency vet. The vet said he had a gasterol problem and he had to get fluids and medicine for a few days and then he was back to normal. He started showing these symptoms a day after we first gave him dog treats. So now he has to eat the same type of food all the time or he vomits.
