Hello, I am new to this, but my first question is this:

My daughter is 8 years old, her father is currently in prision serving 8 years.. Once he gets out he will be a registered sex offender. This sex crime was NOT done on our daughter but to his step-daughter. She knows a little about why he is there but not the whole story. I don't want to keep her from her father. SHe tells me a lot that she misses him and that she loves him, but I don't want anything to happen to her. When he gets out she will be 11 years old... My question is when he gets out will he be allowed visitation to our daughter? I want someone to be there when he has visitaions, but what do I need to do to make sure he doesn't get visitations alone... I don't have the money to hire a lawyer. Can someone give me some advice what I need to do now to keep my child safe, when he does get out? Thanks

I think her father shouldn't want to go back to the prison, the best you can do is to observe the way he changed and think again, according this.

I would start with talking to the prosecutor that handled the case. They may be able to advise you how to petition in Family Court for supervised visitation.

You don't mention if you have or are divorcing him. Setting up visitation would be part of that action.

First I would want to keep my child as far away from this man as possible, Most child molestors never change and will do it again when they get out.
In many states this crime and/or the long prison time is enough to go to court and get all of his rights taken away, so he may never visit her. I would consider doing this.

Hi, yes I am divorced from this man, and he is re married, as am I. We both had separate lives when this happened. He had every other weekend visits at the time. That's why I needed advice about when he gets out, how should I go about getting the vistiations monitored or had he lost his visitation when he done this...

He has not lost his rights unless you filed a motion to take them away, also you need to , if you are going to allow visits, go to court and get the visitation ordered changed to show supervised visits.

You need to go to court and ask for a modification of the visitation schedule to allow for supervised visitation only or to end visitation entirely.

Do not expect child molesters to change... You should file a petition to modify the parenting plan to allow only for supervised visitation or end the visitation.

Go to Family Court - or whatever branch handles these matters in your area - and speak to someone. Get started on supervised visitaition (if that is acceptable to you).

You must protect your daughter and I would start getting involved now.
