    Child abandonment
What are the Oregon laws on child abandonment? We are trying to get sole custody because the mother has not been apart of her sons life in over a year. What can we do?

The laws on child abandonment refer to leaving a child totally unattended. Child abandonment may be used as grounds to get custody, but there is often no set time frame.

You really have not provided enough information for us to really give good advice. Are you going for sole legal custody? If the mother has not been a part of the child's life, then someone must be taking care of the child. That person would be seem to have full physical custody, though there may be a visitation order. Are you trying to end that? Do you want to try for a TPR? If so, that will be very difficult.

So please give us more details so we can advise you better.
