    Maytag refrigerator not cooling
    Hi all
I have a top freezer MTB1553AR but the fridge section is not cooling even though the freezer is working.

    Thanks in advance.

I forgot to mention that the floor of the freezer had a lot of ice ( I thinkt from a broken ice tray) so I plugged out the fridge and used hot water to remove the ice.

When I plugged the fridge back in I can felt some cold air coming through the top vent in the fridge.

ISLAND_ racer - you will probably find that there is ice between the freezer section and the reg fridge section . If this is the culpret then take a hair dryer and hold it back at the air vent that comes down from the freezer section , don't hold it in one spot very long , if it don't melt the ice from there you will probably have to get at it from inside the freezer
Now if it is not this ,take off bottom front plate and clean out from under the fredg, with a vacumn cleaner, the grill ( evaporater) gets covered with dirt and hair and can not release the heat from the returning freon before it gets back to the compressor, then the frige won't cool like it should ; also check the settings on the inside for proper settings ;; Good luck and GOD BLESS :: F.B.E.

Make sure you can hear the cooling fans running in the vents inside the fridge

Thanks for the responses. The hot water in the freezer solved the problem as the fridge was cooling by the morning. Also one more question: There is a thin plastic strip / arm running in some guides in the roof of the fridge beside the console for the light, what is this for ?
