When I stand facing north. The green needle on my compass points to the
East. I tried rotating the housing till the green needle pointed north. Butit is
Still pointing in the direction of the east.

I don't get it??

Perhaps it is pointing to magnet north, and you merely are confused as to where north is?

Or he is near a large enough piece of metal or electric field to attract the needle and cause erroneous readings.
