It sounds like an air lock - is the air hole in the gas cap clean and open? (I paid a service guy to come to my house, remove the gas cap, wipe it off and replace it - for an air lock.)

If you mean it bogs down to a slow speed or shuts off, it is probable thisk, tall grass and you need to cut a narrower width or set the mower to cut higher.
