HELP!! My water pressure- comes and goes- we had to turn the main water valve off- to make plumbing repairs- now that we've turned it back off- I have water pressure problems- it starts great then it goes away and comes back- what could cause this?? Can someone please help me?!

Hi Hazel,
It sounds like when you made the plumbing repair you dislodged some minerals built up in the pipe walls and now they're blocking your faucets. What, exactly is the problem? The entire house? One faucet? More then one? If faucets what brand? One handle or two? To help I need more details then you've furnished. Regards, Tom

This is a volume problem not a pressure problem from what you have said so far. Are you 100% sure you opened the main fully? A ball valve only takes a 1/4 turn but a gate valve can takes as many as 20 twists of the wrist.

I really need help, there are 2 shut off valves, the one that belongs to me, is stripped... we can't get it to turn the water off... so we had to turn the water off at the one they use if the city turns the water off... we were able to use mine one time before we stripped it... so we're thinking maybe he didn't open it all th way. And now that it's stripped... we are going to have to replace the shut off valve. The house is 16 years old and the shut off valve that's on there they no longer make. And the water pressure problem is all through the house. I really appreciate any input anyone can provide!!

Can you put a pair of pliers on the stem of the shut off valve and open it up counterclockwise? Let me know, Tom

Shut off water at the meter (street), replace main valve, turn water back on - and see if it helped.

I agree, this needs to be done anyway so try it, you may like it.
