Motion to Compel is layman's terms means that the opposing side has petitioned the Court to force you to do something. Usually a Motion to Compel would involve interrogatories or production of documents. If you do not comply with the Motion to Compel within a certain amount of days set forth in the Motion, the opposing attorney will schedule a Hearing before the Judge and the Judge will then sign an Order demanding you to produce the answers to the interrogatories or produce the documents requested or you could have your case dismissed. I've seen this happen where the party who ignored the Motion to Compel and the Judge's Order ended up having their case dismissed.
