Buying a used car a good move?
    Hi everyone,

I'm 24 year old with a 10 year old car. I'm thinking about getting a new car to replace my current since it's really old and doesn't look very reliable anymore.

I was advised from college professors to get an used-car when you first start. I did look at carmax/cars sites to look at used Toyota RAV-4. I'm thinking like 2-3 yrs old used RAV4 (reg, sprt, limit.. doesn't matter) at under 20K.

I want to hear your experience on buying a used car. Do you recommend it? Do they also have 0% APR for 48/60 months? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Your car doesn't LOOK reliable? Or isn't reliable? Mine's 14 years old and it's in great shape. I won't be getting a new car for a few more years. Your best bet is to buy something that is a few years old at least. And try to have money to put down on it.

Its up to you regarding the old car but your question centers on can this be a good deal. Carmax will not deal on their price so what you see is what you get. They do provide a brief warranty period and even a return under certain circumstances. Buying from a private party will be much cheaper but for obvious reasons, as-is no warranty, no financing and a history that is a big question. Many dealerships will also provide a 90 day warranty and help with financing but do not hold your breathe on a 0% APR for 48/60 months, not going to happen on a used car. Shop around starting with your own bank. The car dealer is often not your best deal on financing.
