Will the brine solution from a water softener hurt the septic bacteria?
The water coming up from the well is nice and hard.
I have been thinking about adding a water softener to the system

My concern is the bacteria in the septic system surviving the brine flush from the softener.

Will it kill off the septic?
Where should I have the water softener flush to?

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

You will be fine mixing a softner with a septic tank, my opinion, but researchers are still debating this . Water Softener Use Raises Questions for System Owners I have had a softner with a septic for decades with no problems but read the article for yourself.

That being given, maybe putting a softener in front of the bathrooms only would limit use from the kitchen or outdoor faucets, and would reduce the amount of discharge.

Worse come to worse, it is only about $150 to pump the sucker out.
