Want to know who owned my house before me
Hello! I went to the assessors office and they gave me a short list of past owners. Then I went to the library and found more in the city directories. The assess. Office said the house was built in 1928 but the city directory said the first owners were not until the yr. 1930. Why would that be? Is there another place I can get a complete list of owners? I'll be waiting for your answer. Thanks, p

    PS you guys rock!

Just a thought that I have concerning why the first owners were not listed until 1930. For one thing, the house may have been in the stages of being constructed when it was first listed at the assessor's office. In the Abstract to my home, my the property and presumably my home are listed for a number of years before it was actually occupied. So, that might be one possible explanation as to why your home wasn't occupied for a couple of years.

If you can get a hold of the Abstract for the property, there might be more information in it for you.

A good abstract can cost some money to construct though. I agree with Clough about the reason that it was not listed as being occupied for those 2 years. Also taxes usually are not collected for the first year but start on the second year. If the tax assessor's office gave you the names of the people who lived there and owned the home, I tend to agree that those were all the people who actually owned the home.

Actually, the assessors office did not give me the first owners name. Only that the house was built in 1928. I found the first owner in a city directory book that also gave me his wife's name and his occupation. The first entry for my address was in 1930. It didn't exsist till 1930. I found a few other people who owned the home in the city directories that were not on the list at the assessors office. Thanks for your time. P

I possess the Abstract to my home. Although the Abstract is technically not my property, I do possess it. A person is allowed to do that in the area where I live. More is added to it by some sort of city or county entity when someone else purchases the home.
