I live in Michigan got a DUI on Easter and my dad is going to tell my PO that I have been violating my probation so I will go to jail, his way of kicking me out I guess. My current living situation is not helping me out either not making excuses for my violating probation but. I have bought tickets to get the hell out of here but I have a couple of weeks to think about it. The closest place I know people and a house to live in is in Vegas, my Michigan license is cut but I do have a Nevada license. I always thought that if I was to do this than I couldn't go back to Michigan which would be fine with me but I don't know if they will come after me which I doubt since it is a small town. I know people that have gone AWOL in the military and live normal lives and this is nowhere close to being AWOL so insight please.

Does your dad have proof that you have been violating your probation?
And how exactly are you in violation?

He does, I black out when I drink and apparently I went wandering around town and somehow got in trouble and he has a police report of an incident with me climbing a sign at a coffee shop and it saying I had bloodshot eyes no shirt on slurring my words and being uncopperative with the cop. I have seen the police report and I just want to know why the cop didn't bring me in on being drunk in public or he had to have seen my cut license run it and see I am on probation...

If you do decide to leave Michigan, guess what? You will not be able to renew your Nevada license when the time comes. I am surprised that you even have two driver's licenses as to have two licenses is illegal. Just think about this. Every time you are stopped by a cop in a traffic stop, they will run your info and find out that you have a warrant for you in Michigan. Warrants NEVER expire. How are you going to get any kind of ID in the future, let alone a driver's license? If you do go to the DMV in Nevada, they will run your info prior to any kind of license renewal and find all about Michigan. They will place you in jail and notify Michigan of your whereabouts. It could be weeks before Michigan makes up their mind whether to come and get you or not. My advice to you is to stay in Michigan and clear up whatever probation problems you have there before you leave for out of state. You also need to address your drinking problem before that gets out of hand. The fact you black out is definitely not good. You could get behind the wheel of a car and cause a horrible accident. Do you really want that on your conscience?

Maybe a better thing to do is to just work something out with your dad. And move out of his house. If you can move out of state then wouldn't you be able to move out of Dad's house?

I never think it is a good idea to run.

The legal advice is that if you skip there will be a warrant issued for your arrest. As part of looking for you, the Police will run your name and discover you have two Drivers Licenses. That is, by the way, also illegal. You will not be able to get a new License in ANY State - because of the nationwide computers - with an open warrant and if you show up at DMV you will be arrested.

Obviously if you try to get a job that requires any type of background check the warrant will show up.

So if your living situation in Michigan is causing you to violate, instead of leaving Michigan, why don't you stay there and leave your living situation?

A lot also depends on your age - your father just may not want to get sued if you are underage and he is still responsible for you. Or he may want you in jail because you can't stay straight outside of jail. Or he may just want to get "rid of you."

As far as all the AWOL people you know, you may never get stopped and may never get caught and that very well may be their situation.

It's the same as driving without insurance - you're fine right up until you're in an accident.

Actually on the AWOL, yes if they have a warrant out for that, and are every stopped and have their ID ran, they will be arrested on the spot and the military will come get them, so if you know anyone living a normal life, they just have never been caught or stopped yet.

DUI, OK, from several states away, most likely they will not come get you, but you other license will be void at this point but if not they will never renew it. Plus you will not get a regular job that does a background check since unless it is a car wash or maybe a under the table job, they are not going to hire someone with a warrant out on them.

And the PO will find this out without your dad, they run your arrest report a few times a year anyway normally as standard procedure. And you have another violation, the worst one, you are to report any incident, most likely you would only get a stern warning or AA classes for being drunk and not driving, but don't tell the PO yourself, he will most likely violate you right away.

So what do you do, be a man, take responsibility, go in and tell the PO, my guess at worst a week or two in jail, till a hearing, and then you get back on probation. You run and the rest of your life will be down hill fast
