This is my first post on this forum. I'd appreciate any input. We are not sure if we should take our 8 year-old chihuahua (who's always been healthy) to the vet... or the problem she's having can be taken care of at home. TIA.

Take her to the Vet.

It could be kennel cough that is very treatable with antibiotics. I have also heard they will cough with certain types of worms.
As Judy said please take her to the vet.
